This week Jordan went for a physical evaluation. Overall, he is on average for his adjusted age of ten and a half months. He interacts well with adults, reacts to sounds properly, and plys with his toys like he should. The people did notice something in a few minutes that we have noticed all summer long. If you give him a toy in his left hand he will eat it. If you give him a toy in his right hand, he will pass to his left - and eat it. They didn't see it, but he will hold a bottle with two hands or only his left. He definitely favors his left and his grandparents and parents think he is left handed.

The biggest problems were the gross and fine motor skills. Picking up something the size of a box of cheerios is gross motor skills. Mostly whole arm type of stuff. Picking up individual cheerios is fine motor skills. Mostly hands and fingers. He was on the low end of normal in both areas. I would love to give him more practice, but there is a big problem with the fine motor skills. The best way to practice that is to let him feed himself. However, he has no teeth. I can't let him have crackers or cheerios until he can chew. Of course, as soon as he learns to eat cheerios, he learns to throw them. Maybe I can wait a little longer.

The one thing they told us to work on is tummy time. They say that he should still learn to crawl.

Does this look like a crawler to you? Does he even look like a sitter anymore?

We gave Nina gerber puffs which dissolve in the mouth (no teeth needed)so he can work on his fine motor/feed himself! Try it!

Hey there to answer you question about traveling. We had my mother in the back with Nina which was wonderful b/c I get carsick. My mom read to her and gave her snacks and worked the DVD player.
It was a 9 hour trip up. We left around 6:30 (Nina does not usually get up till 7:30 but we wanted to get started) we stopped around 8 to feed her breakfast in a parking lot. My mom really was a super help keeping her happy...we stopped a few times so she could get out and run around. And she napped according to her usual nap time. We let her watch 2 30 min shows (like at home) We tried to mimic what we do at home in the car.
Some people drive through the night so baby sleeps, but we really were not into night driving. Hope this helps!

Awww, look at those little kickers work! He's becoming quite the pro at this whole standing thing- noticeably better with his balance, just gotta figure out what those feet things are for...too adorable.

But why did the Doc say it's important for him to learn to crawl? I don't doubt him, just never thought of it as developmentally important other than being the step before walking.

But tummy time? I don't envy you that challenge at all...I'm remembering the Dr Jekyll/ Mr Hyde routine at Rochelle's house (when you laid him on his belly it was frowns all around, but when you stood him on his feet, it was party time) Yeah, as agreeable as he's generally been, something tells me he might be disagreeable to crawling :)
